The Freedom Of Not Wanting Things
Socrates once said, “Look at all these things I don’t need!”
I love that. I imagine him walking around with his friends, smiling at all the stuff being sold, and feeling no urge to buy any of it. Just peace in knowing he didn’t need more to be happy.
It made me think about my own life. How often I feel like I need the next new thing, the better job, the nicer car, the perfect version of myself. Like happiness is always just out of reach, one more “thing” away.
But maybe that’s the trap.
What if happiness isn’t about having more, but needing less? What if it lives in the small, quiet places, the morning sun, a deep breath, a kind word, knowing someone cares? What if it’s not something to chase, but something to notice?
That thought changed something in me. I still want things sometimes, but now I ask: Do I really need it?
There’s sooooo much freedom in that. The kind you get when you stop trying to prove something (even to yourself). And honestly, who’s got time for worries when you’ve got food this good? And happiness just gazes back at you from your loved one over Nihari❤️
