A Week Of Unexpected Positivity
Last Monday, I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, You look tired, mate. The kind of tired that shows up in your eyes and makes your face forget how to look friendly.
So I made a weird little promise to myself: I’m going to smile more this week. No reason. Just to see what happens.
Day one, I tried a casual smile on my walk to work. Some people smiled back. Others looked concerned. One lady actually crossed the street. I wasn’t sure if that was a win, but I kept going.
Day two, I turned it up a notch. Smiled at my barista. She blinked twice like I’d just proposed. I just said, Morning! The poor girl gave me a free muffin. I took it as encouragement.
I smiled at a workmate and she actually asked, “What are you up to?” Another colleague messaged me: “Are you okay? You look… happy?” I told him I was just trying something new. He responded with this 🍁🚬
Day three, I smiled during a work call. My colleague asked if I was drunk. I wasn’t. Just smiling.
By day four, people were convinced, I’d found Jesus or won the lottery 🙄 sorry ☺️
By the weekend, smiling wasn’t a project anymore. It was just… happening. I smiled at the smell of coffee. I smiled at the sound of rain and now people were really concerned!
But something shifted. The smiles weren’t forced. I started feeling a bit… lighter? People were nicer. I was nicer. Even when nothing changed around me, I jusr felt better!
Would I recommend it? 100%! Just be ready for people to think you've lost your mind.
